Printed Matter: One Of The World’s Best

printed_matter_storefrontOne of my favorite art and design bookstores was just recognized by Huffington Post as one of the world’s best. Take the trip to Chelsea and let’s keep these little guys going strong.

A New Middle-Eastern Cookbook

9781906868840Have you made it out to Brooklyn’s award-winning Middle Eastern restaurant, Tanoreen? If not, the chef’s new cookbook comes fairly close with gorgeous photography and lots of stories of aromatic spices and flavors from Palestine to your table.

About Love-

20140212-171130.jpgThe seasoned editor behind everyone’s favorite weekly New York Times love column, Modern Love, tells you what he’s learned over the years in his new book. You may or not find the answers you’ve been looking for, but you’re not alone.

Design Brooklyn Book

book coverSince Brooklyn seems to be on everyone’s short-hand of what’s hot and trending, this new hardcover book, $40, shows off both old and new in 150 gorgeous photographs. What’s great is that the authors compiled both the worn and gritty mechanic’s shop and historic brownstones to the fab, renovated homes, restaurants, cafés and museums that draw people from all over. So basically, this is the gift for those unique, urban design snobs you’re dying to impress.

I♥NY Cookbook –

i-love-new-yorkYou really can’t go wrong with this giant cookbook, $30, from the two chefs behind one of New York’s best-reviewed fine dining splurges. Eleven Madison Park is one of the few in town to garner a four-star review from the NY Times and have its fussy food critic Pete Wells say, “Words fail the dishes.” The new recipe book has lots of NYC classics and of course, lots of local artisanal ingredients. Foodies, try your luck.

Puddin’ Time

IMAG1800Definitely not Bill Cosby’s version with flavor combos like banana cream dream (banana pudding, graham cracker crumbs, banana cake and whipped cream) or caramel macchiato (coffee and chocolate puddings, fudge, brownie pieces and caramel sauce). They have frozen pudding pops, cookies, cakes and a DIY topping list too. They’re open on weekends ’til 2am, but if you can’t make it to the East Village, you can try Clio Goodman’s creamy recipes at home with the Puddin’ recipe book.

Mile End Cookbook

The last day of Hanukkah is the perfect time to order a copy of Mile End’s Montreal-to-Brooklyn redefinition of Jewish comfort food. Their butternut squash latke won second place at this year’s latke festival for good, mushy reasons.

80’s Madonna Photo Book

madonna-corman-3

The photographer Richard Corman happened to bump into Madonna early in their careers bouncing along the then-derelict Lower East Side and captured once-in-a-lifetime shots of her chilling with neighborhood kids in an era of 80’s new wave, punk, pop and funk. The new book drops November 20.
